RECENT EVENTS

As an auspicious maiden initiative of Mathru Chaya Foundation (MCF), last December, there was free "pongal prasadam" distribution during the entire monthof "maargazhi" to a group of poor and needy workers in Bangalore, everyday in the morning (in the same line of "Naarayana Seva") - As mentioned earlier, Tiruppavai pongal prasadam distribution is continuing well, youngsters particularly are thrilled in Bangalore with the introduction of this seva. The organizers were requested to ensure the prasadam is made with lot of ghee (mooda nei-peidhu!) and each serving contains at least 2-3 cashew nuts in them! A 6 year old child told the volunteers in all herinnocence that it was the best "kichadi" she everhad and opined that "we" must be rich people tooffer it like this! They all got now used to assemble at 5.30 ignoring the chill in the air, I am sure mother ANdaL will be pleased with them. This experience has given so much joy to Sri.Jayaraman, who is actually exploring possibilities of finding a small place in Mylapore to introduce this breakfast scheme on a year-long continuous basis.

Next, MCF celebrated EID recently by way of offering free lungies, sarees, etc. to a dozen muslim brothers in Chennai.

On Christmas day last December, MCF volunteers distributed free new warm-clothing to a group of poor children in an orphanage at Bangalore. On 26th December, blankets were offered to the orphanage run by a Church in Bangalore in line with Christmas celebrations. The recipients included 4 elders of 90 plus age bracket and few of them expressed their appreciation and gratitude overwhelmingly and one lady went on to praise the gesture as very kind and unique and stayed with the volunteers for a long time not having the heart to leave them and go. These special instances are really motivating factors for the volunteers to do better and do more.

While Chennai is gearing up in recent times to welcome the New Year with dance parties, MCF came with a special idea of organizing a Divya Nama Sankeerthanam programme in a temple premise in Chennai and published a small advert in The Hindu for this purpose.
